Meditation In Psychotherapy
This first time event is a
one-day workshop exploring the use of meditation and mindfulness in deepening
the therapeutic contact between therapist and self, therapist and client and
client and self.
The objective of the workshop is to explore how the
principles and practices of meditation can enhance psychotherapy. Included are
an overview of the varieties of meditative skills that have been studied in
clinical practice; an examination of how meditation is enriching our
understanding of psychotherapy in general; and practical therapeutic
applications.
The workshop will address critical theoretical issues and
reveal how meditation can improve clinical work with difficult-to-treat
clinical conditions, improve physical health and foster personal self-care and
well-being. There will also be an opportunity to explore the use of mindfulness
in working with loneliness, alienation, illness and loss; and to apply
mindfulness to the treatment of depression, anxiety, chronic pain and childhood
distress.
